Morning Star School was established as a nursery school in May 2006. Back then, the school begun with just 6 pupils; 2 boys and 4 girls who enrolled that first year. At the time, there were only 2 teachers; the current director and a vocational teacher. The first classroom was a provisional classroom in a verandah that measured about 6 meters by 6 meters. Back then, pupils would walk long distances just to attend school and the education was mainly taught using the local vernacular language Luo (an African Nilotic language).
One of the biggest motivators in starting this school was the fact that there were many children who were affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Some had lost one or both parents to the plague while others were themselves also suffering from the effects of the disease. The Director considered this as a major hindrance to education in the area.
Many parents were so weak to send their children to school. On the other hand, many children lacked adequate food and clothing to attend school. Even to date these issues still present major challenges to the community and the school endeavors not only to educate, but also provide nutritional requirements and clothing to its students.
Today it has grown to host 300 students, 11 teachers, and now has its own compound, toilet facilities, a water tower and classrooms. <view gallery

This was the very first block of classrooms in 2008 which was assigned to the pre-school pupils.
40% of these children are HIV AIDS orphans with most living with the condition. So a healthy diet is not an option.

We have steadily grown in number and quality of education since 2006. This was taken in 2009 and numbers continure to grow today.
